One
of the great rewards and privileges of filming weddings is the
fact that some of the most special, memorable and poignant moments
in a person's life are coming into creation right before you - and
your lens. At
leaky dragon we pride ourselves on producing wedding films that
match the quality and sophistication of the movies and TV shows we
all take for granted. However ... sometimes there are moments
when you capture something that tells a powerful story very
simply. This
was just the case during the Wedding of Caroline
and Ash in 2005 at a stately home in Surrey. Monst and I
filmed the couple's first & second dance, by which time we
planned to take a break before filming the guests dancing.
However, Caroline then proceeded to dance with her dad,
Don. Instinctively
I kept filming on the off-chance we might be able to incorporate
the footage somewhere on the finished DVD. Monst could see what I
was up to and she grabbed a few shots of Don's hands gently
holding Caroline as they danced. It
was only when I assessed the rushes a few weeks later that I found
I was rather choked by the end of the footage. It was such a
beautiful event, which everyone at the time seemed to be
oblivious to! The close family bond between Caroline and Don is
palpable. The
sequence took little editing - what you see is a relatively simple
cut which consists of quite raw footage, especially for the first
minute of the dance. However,
if you listen to the words of Luther Vandross and stick with the
dance until the end, you may understand why no-one in Caroline's
family can hold the tears back when they view it. That's
the beauty of moving pictures. Your wedding day and all the
special memories you will always treasure are immortalised in a
vivid way that no other medium could ever hope to achieve. Best
wishes to Caroline, Ash and family from Pete & Monst. |
